Waning Days

I started this project in April 2020. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I photographed my neighborhood, Bayonne, New Jersey. When the pandemic restrictions were lifted, I could expand the series to include my commuting area, New York City.

I observed my surroundings disintegrating. I noticed the natural world being interpreted by mediated forms such as posters, screens and synthetic objects. I photographed these circumstances to convey my distress about nature being replaced with artificial substitutes. I chose subjects with intrinsic vibrant colors. My aim was to subvert the traditional connection of these tones to emotional well-being. This distortion reflected my uneasiness in these environments and gave voice to my anxiety about this time period.
